351 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PEVERE, James “Jim” Jim was born in Smiths Falls, Ontario on June 10, 1942. On September 20, 1961, he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Regiment. He served in Canada and Germany. Jim was discharged on November 29, 1964. He was awarded the Special Duty Medal. Jim resides in Smiths Falls and is a thirteen-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 95 and serves in executive positions. PHILLIPS, Francis Arnold Private Francis Arnold Phillips was born September 18, 1896 in Wellington County, Ontario. He was the son of Francis Phillips and Mary Jane Darby. By occupation he was a Telegrapher. When World War I broke out, he enlisted in the CanadianArmy and was assigned to the 34th Battalion and subsequently transferred to the 5th Canadian Motorized Rifles, Quebec Regiment. Francis Arnold Phillips died of wounds, a lacerated left ankle and fractured skull at No 42 Casualty Clearance Station on October 26, 1917. He is buried in the Aubigny Communal Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. PHILLIPS, Charles Archibald “Archie” Archie was born in Chesley, Ontario in 1917. He enlisted with the Army for World War II in June 1940 and went in with the Highland Light Infantry on D-Day. Archie served in Canada, England and France. He and his brother, Babe, survived but would not talk about their war experiences. Archie did say, however, after experiencing the horror of the landing, that if he had a son, he would not let him go to war. He was discharged in August 1945. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Chesley Branch 144. Archie passed away March 15, 1977.
