339 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND NEWLOVE, William Metcalfe William was born on May 3, 1883 in Richmond, Yorkshire, England. By 1914, he resided in Coldwater, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army during World War I in Orillia with the 157th Overseas Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force on November 11, 1915. He was 32 years old and married. Private William Newlove sailed to England on the SS Cameronia, arriving on October 28, 1916. After training in England, he landed in France on February 11, 1917, to join his frontline unit, the 116th Canadian Infantry Battalion. Lance Corporal Newlove suffered gunshot wounds during the fighting around Vimy in April 1917, but later returned to action. On the morning of August 27, 1918, during an attack near Arras, he was killed instantly by an enemy shell. Lance Corporal Newlove is buried at Vis-enArtois British Cemetery, Pas-de-Calais, France. NORRIS, Henry A. “Hank” Hank was born on March 6, 1925 to Albert and Anne Norris in Kitchener, Ontario. He had one brother named Edward. In November 1943, he joined the Army and trained as a rifleman with the Perth Regiment. He served in Canada, England, Europe and Italy during World War II. While in battle in Italy, Hank was wounded and sent to recover in Holland. In 1946, with demobilization underway, Lance Corporal Norris was discharged from the war effort. He returned to Kitchener and later met Ruth and her young son. They were married and together they made a family of six with Rick, Gail, Debbie and Brian. Hank’s civil occupation was always in security. In 2001, at 75 years of age, Hank passed away and is buried in Parkview Cemetery in Waterloo, Ontario. He was a charter member of the Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch 530 and his name has been inscribed on Panel # 6 of the Waterloo Legion Veterans Memorial Wall. NOBLE, Allan John Allan was born in Lindsay, Ontario on April 11, 1946. He enlisted in the Navy in May 1963 and served on HMCS Victoriaville, HMCS Micmac and HMCS Assiniboine on the High Seas. He was discharged in May 1966. Allan was employed at Air Canada for 29 years and with the Ministry of the Attorney General for thirteen years. He is a thirteen-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Milton Wesley Branch 426 in Newmarket, Ontario.
