On March 4, 1954, he joined the British Army and served in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in England and Hong Kong. Graham was discharged on March 4, 1956 and emigrated to Canada. He currently lives in Perth, Ontario. NEVILLE, Henry Hargreaves Henry was born in Hartley, Yorkshire, England on May 10, 1894. He was employed on a Mount Elgin farm when he went to St. Thomas to enlist in the Army on August 2, 1915. Henry served during World War I in France with the Canadian Expeditionary Force, 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles. His death report states, in part “while going into the trenches, the Germans threw a large number of gas shells and his platoon was right in the thick of the deadly gas. Nothing can be done in a case like this.” Henry was killed in action on September 12, 1916 in Courcelette, France. NEEB, Valentine Edward Valentine was born in Tavistock, Perth County, Ontario on May 27, 1897 to Johannes and Gertrude Neeb, who had five other children: George, Elizabeth, Alberta, Henry and Arthur. At age 20, Valentine was drafted under the Military Service Act which became law on August 29, 1917 to help recruit reinforcements to support the World War I effort. He was ordered to report to the Army’s 1st Depot Battalion of the Western Ontario Regiment in London for his medical examination on May 9, 1918. Upon passing the medical and completing basic training, Valentine was posted to the Western Ontario Regiment. Shortly afterward, the military started to demobilize the Canadian Expeditionary Force and Valentine was discharged on September 26, 1918. He married Marie Schmidt in 1923 and they had four children: Gertrude, Helen, Audrey and Mary. Valentine passed away in Waterloo, Ontario on June 5, 1975.
