335 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MYRICK, John Frederick John was born on May 17, 1921 in Tillsonburg, Ontario. He had been employed at the Tillsonburg Creamery Ltd. He was a brother of Philip Myrick. When John enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force, he served as an Air Gunner aboard a Halifax bomber from 78 Squadron, Royal Air Force which was conducting a raid on Mainz, Germany. The plane went down on August 11, 1942 in the North Sea near Denmark with no survivors. His body was later recovered and buried in Denmark. NANIGISHKUNG, Hugh Hugh was born in Rama First Nation, Ontario on December 21, 1886 to Charles and HannahYoung. He worked as a labourer. He enlisted in the Army on February 25, 1916 and served with the 177th Overseas Battalion in Canada and in England during World War I. Hugh was medically discharged. He married Rosanna Sandy at Christian Island in September 1918. Hugh passed away in the 1950’s. MYRICK, Philip Rex Philip was born on August 6, 1922 in Tillsonburg, Ontario. He was the younger brother of John Myrick. Philip enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and flew a Beaufighter aircraft during World War II. His attack force discovered a German destroyer and other naval ships sheltering in a narrow fiord. Their attack was beaten off by German fighters and flak. Ten allied planes were destroyed including Philip’s. He paid the supreme sacrifice on February 9, 1945 in Forde, Norway.
