331 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MOWFORTH, George Robert George was born in Hull, England on August 12, 1892. He arrived in Canada in 1904 at the age of fourteen with other Barnardo children. On February 8, 1916, he enlisted with the Army and served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force Oxford’s Own 168th in France during World War I. George was married when he enlisted. While serving in the trenches in Farbus, France, Harry was killed in action on April 11, 1917. MULDER, Gerrit Gerrit was born in Utrecht, Holland on February 23, 1890. He was married with two small children when he enlisted on January 10, 1916 into the Canadian Expeditionary Force, Oxford’s Own 168th. He served with the 21st Battalion while he was in France. Gerrit went missing while in the trenches north of Lens during the Battle for Hill 70. Gerrit was later classed as killed in action on August 16, 1917. MUDFORD, Vernon Vernon was born in Mankota, Saskatchewan on August 23, 1916. He was living with his parents in Tillsonburg when he enlisted into the Royal CanadianAir Force. Serving as a bomb aimer for 426 Thunderbird Squadron, his Halifax aircraft was shot down by a German night fighter on May 9, 1944. They were on an operation against Haine-St. Pierre, Belgium. In a combined force of 62 aircraft mission, his was one of six that were destroyed that night. He is commemorated at Runnymede Memorial, Surrey, United Kingdom.
