329 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MOSS, John John was born on March 12, 1925 in Stratford, Ontario. On April 16, 1943, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served with 437 Squadron during World War II. John served in Canada and overseas in England until his discharge on June 14, 1946 with machine qualifications. In 1951, John graduated from U of T with a Chemical Engineering Degree. He received the Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, War Medal 1939-1945. John is a forty-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Brampton Branch 15. MOUNTAIN, Michael W. Michael was born in Quebec City on May 23, 1966. He enlisted in the Army Regular Force on May 21, 1986 and served with the 2nd FieldAmbulance, Canadian Airborne Regiment, 3 RCR, 1Fd Hospital and JTF II. Michael served in Somalia, Turkey (Dart), Bosnia, and Afghanistan. He was discharged on July 6, 2016. For his service, he was awarded the following medals: Medical Branch, MID for Afghanistan, CDI, SSM Humanitarian, Bosnia Somalia, Turkey (Dart 1999). Michael resides in Smiths Falls and has been an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 95 for ten years. MOSS, William Alexander William was born in Dundas, Ontario on October 23, 1896 to William Henry and Margaret Moss. He joined the military during World War I on September 22, 1915 and took his basic training with the 86th Weiland Canal Force - 77th Regiment. He sailed from Halifax to England aboard the SSAdriatic in May 1916 and was posted to Thorncliffe Army Training Camp in Kent. Moss was awarded the Good Conduct Badge in November 1917 and was promoted to Corporal. In May 1918, Cpl. Moss was transferred to the 4th Canadian Machine Gun Division and served in France and England until his return to Canada after the war. He received an honourable discharge on June 16, 1919. William was a Charter Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch 530 and was also a member of Branch 50 in Kitchener for a total of 35 years. He died in 1967 and is buried in the Soldier’s Plot at Mount Hope Cemetery. His name has been inscribed on Plaque #1 of the Waterloo Legion Veterans Memorial Wall.
