327 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MORRIS, Ernest Stanley “Ernie” Ernie was born on February 11, 1917 in Owen Sound, Ontario, to William and Lottie Morris. He enlisted in the Army on June 21, 1940 with the Grey and Simcoe Foresters and was a Lance Corporal who served in France, United Kingdom, Italy and Germany duringWorldWar II. He married ShirleyYates in February 1945 and they had three children. He was discharged on January 26, 1946. Ernie worked at Owen Sound Boat Works and upon his retirement he and his wife moved to London, Ontario. They moved back to Owen Sound in 1994. Ernie passed away on September 25, 2005 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Owen Sound, Ontario. MORROW, William David “Bill” William was born on January 4, 1897, in St. Edmonds Township, Bruce County, Ontario. While living in Lion’s Head, Ontario, he enlisted in the 1st Depot Battalion, London, Ontario on May 30, 1918 during World War I. He served in England and Canada and was discharged on September 22, 1919. On his return to Lion’s Head, he married Christina (Nixon), raising three children. He returned to farming but had many other occupations one being the Lion’s Head Constable for eleven years. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lion’s Head Branch 202. William passed away on April 17, 1976 and Christina in 2004. They are buried in the Eastnor Township Cemetery. MORRISON, Leonard Lynwood Leonard was born in Coldwater, Ontario on June 5, 1897, the son of William James and Elizabeth (Porter) Morrison. On February 29, 1916, Leonard enlisted in the Army duringWorldWar I in Toronto with the Royal Canadian Dragoons, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He was eighteen years old and single and was well known as an amateur rugby and baseball player. Private Leonard Morrison sailed on the SS Lapland, arriving in England on March 24, 1916. After training in England, he landed in France and joined his frontline unit in the field on September 5. On March 30, 1918, during an attack on an enemy machine gun company at Bois de Moreuil, Private Morrison was hit by a bullet and killed instantly. Private Leonard Morrison is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial in Pas-de-Calais, France.
