323 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MOORCROFT, Wilfred Wilfred was born in Fairfield, Derbyshire, England on October 18, 1890. He enlisted in the 215th Battalion in Brantford, Ontario on June 3, 1916. He served in France with the 13th Battalion, Canadian Railway Troops. On April 11, 1919, Wilfred was discharged in Toronto, Ontario. Wilfred passed away on October 13, 1972 in Brantford, Ontario. MOORE, John Richard John was born in Crew, Cheshire on July 12, 1885. He was in the Militia at Aldershot, England until he emigrated to Canada in the early 1900’s. He lived in Toronto and then travelled west to Regina where he enlisted with the Royal North West Mounted Police in 1911. At a ball in Regina, he met his wife to be, Margaret Ann MacKenzie, and were soon married. He took a voluntary discharge from the force and they moved to Ottawa. He enlisted with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, a new regiment, in August 1914. He served in England and France with the Canadian Expeditionary Force with the rank of Lance Corporal. He suffered a severe concussion to his ear during the battle of Mons, which necessitated a surgery and was rendered deaf in that ear. He was awarded the Mons Star. In April 1919, John was discharged. On his return to Canada, he enlisted as a Game and Fishery Overseer based in Mattawa in October 1920 and he served as a T. & N. O. Railway Constable for a time. In Port Credit, shortly before midnight Christmas Day 1953, he was killed by a car while walking to work at the Small Arms Ltd Plant. MOORE, Colin Colin was born in Fulham, England, and born on November 11, 1925. In 1941, he joined the Air Training Corps then joined the Royal Air Force in 1943 and flew as a Flight Engineer on Avro Lancaster and Halifax Bombers during World War II. After the war, Colin continued to serve with the RAF in an Air Traffic Control position and also earned his glider power pilot license. Colin immigrated to Canada in 1960 and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force Reserve, becoming the first Commanding Officer of 707 Etobicoke Squadron, RC(Air)C and served until 1972. He was the founding fathers of the Air Cadet Gliding Program (#1GPTS) in the mid 1960’s. Colin then became the first Deputy Regional Gliding Operations Officer in 1972 and served in that position until his retirement in 1989. He continued to serve in this program as Senior Member of the Ontario Provincial Committee until his passing in St. Mary’s, Ontario on August 10, 2013.
