321 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MONKMAN, Thomas “Norman” Norman was born on August 15, 1890 to Thomas and Susan in Arran Township, Ontario. He attended Public School at SS Number 4, Arran. He had served in Military Forces in the Canadian Militia before enlisting in the army. He went to Alberta as a young man and farmed a half section near Cyen. Norman enlisted in Cyen, Alberta in November 1914 with the 3rd Canadian Mounted Rifles. Private Thomas Monkman saw considerable fighting in France during World War I. He was killed in action on June 8, 1916, at the age of 26, and is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, Etaples, France. MOORCROFT, Brian Vincent Brian was born in Brantford, Ontario on April 22, 1946. He studied nursing at the Royal Victorian Regional School of Nursing in Barrie, Ontario. On July 15, 1974 he enrolled as a Direct Entry Nursing Officer in the Canadian Forces Medical Services. His posting included Borden, Ontario; Summerside, Prince Edward Island; Scott AFB Illinois, Trenton, Ontario and National Defense Medical Centre, Ottawa, Ontario. He took his release on January 14, 1997. Brian resides in Smith Falls and spends the winters in Arizona. MOODY, Arthur A. “Art” Arthur was born in Erin, Ontario on August 29, 1924. He was living in Schomburg and working in a creamery when he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 at the age of seventeen. He received his training in both Toronto and Quebec, then sailing to Glasglow, Scotland in 1944. He was sent to RAF Blakehill Farm in southern England where he joined RCAF 437 Husky Squadron. He was part of the largest mass movement of men and wartime equipment during World War II. Art was honourably discharged on July 24, 1946 as Corporal in special reserves with the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, France and Germany Star and Defence Medal. His theatre of service included France, Germany, Britain, Belgium and Holland. After being discharged, Art was still listed as Class E Reserve. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tottenham Branch in 1947 and transferred to Campbellford Branch from 1955 to 1973 and Mount Albert Legion Branch 382 welcomed him in 1984. Art is still a valued member of Branch 382, having served as Vice-President, Sergeant-at-Arms, and the Branch honoured him by awarding him with a Life Membership in 2005.
