317 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MILLER, Robert “Harvey” Harvey was born on March 6, 1920 in Arran Township, Ontario to Robert and Pearl. He enlisted on September 15, 1942 during World War II with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps (RCASC). Harvey trained in Newmarket, Camp Borden, then was sent to Sydney, Nova Scotia. He served in Canada, Britain and North West Europe. Private Harvey Miller was discharged on January 19, 1946. He married Ida Jean Kirkwood and they had two girls, Anne and Mary Lou. Harvey was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tara Branch 383 for 52 years. He passed away on January 16, 1998 and is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Tara. MILLS, Sydney Carrol “Syd” Syd was born in Tara, Ontario on April 10, 1917 to George and Margaret. He married Isabel Margaret Porter in 1938 and they had two boys, Jerry, who predeceased his father, and Terry. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on March 29, 1943 to serve in World War II. Prior to enlisting, he worked for Bob Berry, Butcher Shop in Tara and farmed. Syd’s rank was Private and he was a Gunner serving in Canada. He was discharged on December 11, 1945. After his discharge, Syd farmed. He and his wife purchased a farm on the 9th Concession in Tara in 1952 and later both worked at the RCAVictor Factory in Owen Sound. Syd passed away on November 4, 1990 and is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Tara. He was a thirty-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tara Branch 383. MILLER, Walter Laverne Walter was born in Arran Township, Ontario on February 27, 1925 to Robert and Pearl. He enlisted on August 24, 1943 in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. LAC Walter Miller served in Canada, England, Germany and Holland before his discharge in June 1946. He married Jean Dobson and they had three children: Linda, Louise and Debbie. Walter was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 383 in Tara, Ontario for 48 years. He passed away on April 14, 1994 and is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Tara.
