315 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MIEHLHAUSEN, Manuel Manuel was born on April 25, 1897 in Carrick Township, Bruce County, Ontario. While living in Lion’s Head, Ontario, he was recruited on May 29, 1918 to the 4th Canadian Res. Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He served in England and was demobilized on July 13, 1919 and returned to Lion’s Head to farm after World War I. Upon returning to Canada, Manuel changed the spelling of his last name without the knowledge of his parents to MIELHAUSEN. He married Laura (Parson) and they raised one daughter and four sons. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lion’s Head Branch 202. Manuel passed away on April 25, 1987. MILLER, Orace Aiken Orace was born in Keppel Township, Ontario on May 11, 1905 to William and Anne. The family moved to Arran Township, Ontario that year. Orace enlisted in the Army in 1940 during World War II. He served as a sapper with the Royal Canadian Engineers, 2nd Division. Orace served in Canada and England and was discharged in 1943. As a young man, he worked in Detroit and learned the millwright trade. After the war, he worked in Sarnia. Orace married Edna Morrow in 1934 and they had three children: Anne, Gwen and Joan. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tara Branch 383 for 17 years. Orace passed away on September 25, 1963 and is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Tara. MIELL, Harold Edward Harold was born on August 27, 1922, in Haldimand County, Ontario. Harold’s parents lived in Haldimand County, but he attended Tillsonburg High during the 1930’s. He enlisted in the Army and served in Europe during World War II. As a member of 550 Squadron RAF, Harold was one of the six crew members of Lancaster NG363 that were killed on a bombing raid to Munich, Germany on January 7, 1945. Only one of the crew became a Prisoner of War.
