301 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McCONKEY, Earl Stanley Earl was born in Middleton Township, Ontario on October 10, 1922. On November 11, 1942, he enlisted with the Army in London, Ontario. He served in Listowel and Petawawa, Ontario, England, France Holland, and Germany as a sapper in the Engineers. Earl helped to bridge the Rhine. He was discharged on January 19, 1946. Returning to civilian life, he was driving truck and operating heavy equipment. Earl has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Port Burwell Branch 524 for 38 years. McDONALD, Mervin Mervin was born in Ontario in January 1918. He served inWorldWar II from 1940 to 1944 in the Army in Hastings Prince Edward Regiment. He fought in Italy and Sicily and was then stationed in North Africa. Mervin returned home on the Hospital Ship Lady Nelson in 1944. He then married Joan (Cozens) and they had three daughters and one son. He retired from Imperial Oil at the age of 65. Mervin passed away onAugust 18, 2012. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Sarnia Branch 62. McDONALD, Allen Garvin Allen was born in Newmarket, Ontario on February 23, 1919. On September 10, 1939, he enlisted with the Army and served with the Royal Regiment of Canada during World War II in Canada, England and Dieppe where he was a Prisoner of War at Stalag 9 Prison Camp with a wounded arm, leg and back. He was discharged on February 13, 1945. Allen was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion. Allen passed away on December 9, 1996.
