279 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MacDONALD, Alastair Donald Alastair was born on May 27, 1943 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Reserve in 1959 and served with the Regina Rifle Regiment. During his time in the Reserves, he completed his university education. He also worked as a Scientist, Mathematician and Educator. Alastair was discharged in 1968. He is a member of Legion Branch 153 Varnavair in Tillsonburg for the past seventeen years. MACHAN, Robert Scott Robert was born in Seaforth, Ontario on November 29, 1967, son of Lloyd and Marion Machan. He enlisted with the Army in July 1987 with 1 Combat Engineer Regiment. Robert served in Croatia, Bosnia, Kuwait and Afghanistan and was discharged in July 2007. MacDONALD, Arthur James Arthur was born in Campbells Creek, on Newfoundland’s Port Au Port Peninsula on August 14, 1939. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on April 27, 1957 at St. John’s, Newfoundland at the age of seventeen. He was discharged 25 years later on January 20, 1983. He then enrolled in the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires for another 22 years and was discharged in 2005. He served his country for a total of 47 years. He did tours of duty in various countries, from St. Johns, Newfoundland to London, Ontario for basic training which turned out to be home base with the Royal Canadian Regiment for most of his service. He spent three years in Germany with NATO, did three tours in Cyprus on peacekeeping duty, and many short stints in Canada, Alaska, Jamaica, the Middle East and four trips to Norway. He moved to Thedford, Ontario in 1982 to enlist in the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires from Camp Ipperwash, Duty Free Shop (Point Edward) and Imperial Oil in Sarnia, Ontario. Arthur received several medals for his service, including the CanadianAirborne Insignia, NATO NorthAtlantic Treaty Organization, Canadian Peacekeeping, United Nations Peacekeeping, Canadian Long Service Clasp, and Commissionaires Long Service Clasp. Arthur has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 278 in Thedford for 13 years.
