275 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LORENZ, Dennis Budd Herman Dennis Budd Herman (Budd Sturm) was born in Waterloo, Ontario on March 29, 1918 to Frank and Julia Anne (Clayfield). He had one brother named Frank and two older sisters, Elise Caroline and May Emma. Dennis was married to Mary (Serdiuk) and the couple had two children, Dennis Budd Herman and Bruce Frank. He enlisted with the Air Force on April 23, 1942 and worked his way up the ranks to Warrant Officer, Class II and was with the RCAF 420 Snowy Owl Squadron. On August 17, 1944, his crew was bombing a target area over Kiel, Germany and they were shot down over water. He is buried in the Kiel War Cemetery in Germany. Warrant Officer Lorenz is gratefully remembered today as a “Son of Waterloo” and his picture hangs on the Memorial Wall in the City Hall inWaterloo, Ontario. LOUCKS, Richard Earl Richard was born in Napanee, Ontario on April 19, 1894. On May 18, 1915, he enlisted with the Army and served in Canada with the Light Anti-aircraft 47 Battery. He was also a member of 15th Regiment in Belleville and a Drill Sergeant in Petawawa. He was the Encampment for the IOOF Argyl Lodge 212 and a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 137. Richard passed away on October 9, 1972. LORENZ, Douglas Leander Douglas Leander was born in the family home in Waterloo, Ontario on October 21, 1924 to Max and Emma (Hinsperger). He had five siblings: Walter, Harry, Roy, Clayton and Elizabeth. Douglas enjoyed playing hockey, baseball and rugby and was interested in woodworking. He worked as a shoe salesman before the war. Douglas enlisted with the Air Force on August 27, 1943 and was part of the Royal CanadianAir Force 415 Squadron. His brothers Roy and Clayton had enlisted with the Canadian Army. On April 10, 1945, his crew took off from the airfield to carry out a bombing attack in Germany. The aircrew failed to return. Flight Sergeant Douglas Lorenz is buried in the Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery in Germany. He is gratefully remembered today as a “Son of Waterloo” and his picture hangs on the Memorial Wall in the City Hall in Waterloo, Ontario.
