251 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KONDERT, Thomas James Thomas was born in Kitchener, Ontario on June 23, 1943. He joined the Army on February 1, 1962 and served in the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers at 4 Field Workshop. He then transferred to the Air Force and served in 408 Squadron, 444 Squadron and 450 Squadron. Thomas served in Canada and in Germany and was discharged in September 1986. He resides in Smiths Falls, Ontario and is a 31-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 95. KRESS, Edwin Edwin Kress was born in Monkton, Ontario on April 22, 1894 to Alfred and Laura Kress. Prior to World War I, Edwin worked on the family farm. On March 13, 1916, Edwin joined the military in Stratford, received his training in London, Ontario and was posted with the 110th O/S Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. On October 31, 1916, Edwin Kress sailed to England from Halifax, Nova Scotia aboard the SS Caronia. On June 17, 1917, Edwin was posted to the 8th Canadian Reserve and embarked to France. On February 19, 1919, Cpl. Edwin Kress was posted to the Knotty Ash Camp in England, returned to Canada on March 22, 1919 and was granted an honourable discharge on March 19, 1919. Edwin joined The Royal Canadian Legion Kitchener Branch 50. Upon forming Waterloo Branch 530 in 1952, Edwin Kress signed up and therefore became a Charter Member. Edwin Kress passed away in 1971 and is buried in the Harriston Cemetery. His name has been inscribed on plaque #1 of the Waterloo Legion Veterans Memorial Wall. KOPPENS, Lambert Lambert was born in Holland on February 12, 1912. On August 25, 1939, he was called to serve in the Dutch Army, and was discharged on May 10, 1940. Lambert volunteered to guard the GermanWall also known as the Atlantic wall from March 1945 to October 1945. He came to Canada on the M.V.Tabinta cargo ship in May 1949 with five children and settled in Aurora, Ontario. Lambert passed away on July 27, 1967.
