241 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KEALEY, John Samuel “Kevin” Kevin was born in Ottawa, Ontario on June 16, 1935. On November 3, 1952, he enlisted with the Navy. He served in Korea on HMCS Haida and on the High Seas on HMCS Loon, HMCE Quebec, HMCE Gaspé and HMCS ST. Laurent. Kevin was discharged on November 2, 1957. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 95 for 33 years. KENNEDY, Francis Joseph Francis was born in Sundridge, Ontario on April 2, 1919. He enlisted with the Army on April 4, 1944 and was assigned to the Canadian Fusiliers and transferred to the Black Watch. Francis served in Canada, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and France during World War II. In this time, he was a Prisoner of War and then wounded by a gun shot of the face. He spent 209 days in hospital for surgery. He was discharged on May 2, 1945. Francis worked odd jobs for twenty years at Dale Estate Brampton. He received several medals as 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Francis was a member of The Royal Canadian legion Branch 467 and later transferred to Brampton, Ontario. Francis passed away on November 29, 1972. KENNEDY, Donald Craig “Don” Don was born in Toronto, Ontario on July 7, 1925. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in the spring of 1943. As he was only seventeen, both his parents were required to give written consent. Don’s job as an armed naval escort was to protect convoys of passenger and merchant ships sailing from Port aux Basques, Newfoundland to Sydney, Nova Scotia and from Halifax to the British Isles. Don and his fellow seamen, on board the Corvette HMCS Riviere du Loup, endured threatening weather conditions and fierce attacks while clearing the Atlantic of German u-boats. Don finished his service in the fall of 1945 when the war ended. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in London, Ontario for two years.
