239 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KARLEY, Frank Joseph Frank was born on June 27, 1920 in Linwood, Ontario to Joseph and Wilhelmine (Adams). He had a brother named Jerome and a sister named Helen. On August 19, 1942, Frank enlisted with the Army during World War II. Corporal Karley served in Canada with the Royal Canadian Army Pay Corps as a payroll clerk. He earned the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal as well as the War Medal 19391945. On demobilization, Corporal Karley was discharged on February 20, 1946. He met his future wife, Blanche, in Brockville during the war and they were married on November 11, 1946. Together, they raised five children: Brian, Carolyn, Mary Lou, Jean and Kevin. Frank worked for Revenue Canada in Customs and Excise, retiring in 1987. He passed away on January 26, 2010 and is buried in Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener, Ontario. KARLEY (DICKSON), Marie Blanche Marie Blanche Dickson was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan on September 9, 1923 to Eugene Dickson and Marguerite (Maltais). She had three siblings: Jack, Elizabeth and Keith. Blanche’s father served as a Lewis Machine Gunner in World War I. Following his lead, Blanche joined the Army in October 1942 during World War II, and quickly earned the rank of Sergeant in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. She was in charge of a platoon of nursing assistants with the #39 Admin Unit, CWAC and was stationed at the Brockville Army Barracks in Ontario from 1943 to 1945. Sergeant Dickson earned the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal as well as the War Medal 1939-1945 for her service. Blanche had met her future husband, Frank Karley, in Brockville, Ontario during the war. On demobilization, Sergeant Dickson was honourably discharged in November 1945 and she married Frank on November 11, 1946. Together, they raised five children: Brian, Carolyn, Mary Lou, Jean and Kevin. Blanche was a stay-at-home mother and enjoyed camping, travel, cards, singing in church choirs, and knitting. KARLEY, Jordan Francis Jordan was born on March 2, 1990 to Kevin and Sharon Karley in Kitchener, Ontario. He joined the Army Reserves with the Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada on February 22, 2007 and served as part of the Domestic Operations Response Team through RHFC from 2008 to 2013. He then transferred to the Regular Force at the rank of Corporal. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 2013 as a firefighter. Jordan completed Firefighting Trade Course at CFB Borden. He was posted to 4 Wing Cold Lake in 2014 and participated in the 4 Wing Cold Lake Air Show in 2015 and 2016. Jordan was also part of a fourteen-day operation in Inuvik as support for the F18 Hornet 401 Squadron. He was Acting Crew Chief on shift in 2015 and 2016. Jordan retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force at the rank of Corporal on October 11, 2016. Karley is a great-grandson to Leslie Edwards and Eugene Dickson, grandson to Frank and Blanche Karley, and great-nephew to Vic Lesperance, Elmer Spielmacher and Al Edwards; all who proudly served their country and are recognized in the Military Service Recognition Books.
