235 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND JONES, George MacDonald “Donald” George was born in KW Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario to John George and Annie (MacDonald) Jones on December 29, 1919. He had one sister Alice. He enjoyed playing rugby and hockey while growing up and was working as an usher in a local movie theatre before the war. On August 28, 1940, he enlisted with the Air Force and was sent to serve in England during World War II. On December 16, 1943, Pilot Officer Jones was the navigator as part of a crew of seven on a bomber command operational night flight in Yearsly (Yorkshire) England. The 426 Squadron RCAF Squad Group 6 were returning from a bombing raid over Berlin. Due to poor weather on their return, their Lancaster Bomber crashed while breaking cloud. Pilot Officer Jones had his Operational Wings and was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Air Crew Europe Star, Defence Medal, General Service Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Pilot Officer Jones is buried in the Harrogate (Stonefall) Cemetery in Yorkshire, United Kingdom. He is gratefully remembered today as a “Son of Waterloo” and his picture hangs on the Memorial Wall in the City Hall in Waterloo, Ontario. JURASZKO, Oleh Gerald Oleh was born in London, Ontario, on December 29, 1951. In 1977, he enlisted with the Army and served with the 22 Service Battalion in Canada. Oleh initially started his military career in grade nine and then joined the # 9 London Cadet Corps. Within five years he became the Drill Sergeant Major of the corps for his last two years. Thereafter he became a CIL officer and in his last year at Ipperwash became an instructor for the CIL officers BIQ course. It was soon after he joined the 22 Service Battalion. After some years he moved to Alberta to accept a job for five years. Oleh was discharged in 1985. JURASZKO, Jaroslaw Myron “Jerry” Jerry was born in London, Ontario, on September 26, 1956. He began his time in the military as a cadet in #9 RACACC in 1970. In 1975, he joined the Militia as a Supply Technician with the 22nd Service Battalion. Deciding on a career in the military, Jerry transferred to the Regular Force in 1979 as a Supply Technician. Over the next thirty years, he served with 2 Svc Bn, RCD, 4 Svc Bn, CFSAL, CFB Kingston, 31 CBG HQ, 2 CMBG HQ & Sig Sqn and finally ASU London having reached the rank of MWO. In 2010, he transferred back to 22 Svc Bn which was re-named 31 Svc Bn that same year due to the amalgamation of three units, 21 Windsor, 22 London, and 23 Hamilton Svc Bn’s. In 2010 he received his Member of the Order of Military Merit, was a promoted to CWO and appointed to RSM of 31 Svc Bn. When his appointment ended in 2013, he was CFR’d to Captain as a Logistic Officer in 31 Svc Bn where he served in numerous positions until his retirement in 2016. In 2017, he returned to the cadets as a COATS Officer with # 109 RCACC in Ingersoll Ontario where he continues to serve.
