227 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND JAMES, Cecil Cecil James was born in Toronto on February 28, 1897 to Minnie James. Cecil joined the military during World War I on October 12, 1917 and received his basic training at No. 2 (Overseas) A.S.C. Training Depot Canadian Expeditionary Force in Toronto. He was posted to the Artillery Brigade and embarked for England on May 10, 1918. He was posted toWitley and then sent into France where he became sick with influenza and sent back to England. The CEF started demobilization and Cecil embarked from Liverpool to Canada on June 11, 1919. On June 23, 1919, Cecil was discharged from the Canadian Forces. He was a long-time member of The Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch 530. Cecil James died in 1982 and his name is inscribed on plaque #2 of the Waterloo Legion Veterans Memorial Wall. JARDINE, Howard Dunton Howard was born in Paris, Ontario on March 5, 1901 to James and Annie Jardine. He went to Galt and joined the Army on February 21, 1917 during World War I. He received his basic training in Galt and was attached to the 122nd Battalion. He was shipped from Halifax with his Battalion on May 28 and arrived in Liverpool, England on June 9, 1917. After further advanced training, Howard was moved to France with the Canadian Forestry Corp. Word was received in a transcript from Canada that Howard Dunton Jardine had disclosed his birth year as 1899 when in fact it was 1901. Paperwork was put in place to return the marginally named minor to Canada as soon as possible. Dispatch this man, complete with documents to Buxton, England. Howard embarked for Canada from Liverpool on June 8, 1918 and was discharged on August 6, 1918. Howard was one of one hundred Veterans who started The Royal Canadian LegionWaterloo Branch 530 in 1952. He is listed as a Charter Member and was a member for 35 years. Howard passed away in 1987 and his name has been inscribed on Plaque 3 of the Waterloo Legion Veterans Memorial Wall. JAMES, Gregory Lawrence Gregory was born in Smiths Falls, Ontario on February 12, 1958. He enlisted with the Army on January 3, 1979 with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME). Gregory served in Canada, Bosnia, and Europe as a Peacekeeper before his discharge on February 2, 1999. After retirement, he returned to work with the Department of National Defence as a civilian Weapons Tech and Security Advisor. Gregory is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 95 in Smith Falls.
