William emigrated from England in 1911 and was working on a farm near Dereham, when he enlisted in the Army duringWorldWar I with the 7th Battalion Canadian Infantry on December 9, 1915. Private Heape was killed in action on April 10, 1917 during the attack at Vimy Ridge, France. HEASLEY, Hugh James Hugh was born in Liverpool, England on July 21, 1882. Prior toWorldWar I, Hugh spent considerable time in the military. He was married to Alyson Louise. Hugh joined the Army on September 18, 1914 at Valcartier, Quebec, and due to his military experience was taken on with the rank of Captain. He sailed with his unit on October 3, 1914. Hugh served in Canada, England and France with the C.A.S.C. 4th Coy Canadian Divisional Train and 3rd Canadian Divisional Train as Senior Supply Officer and was struck off the strength onApril 20, 1918 by reason of being surplus to requirements. Hugh was mentioned in dispatches on December 28, 1917 and May 28, 1918 and was also awarded the Distinguished Service Order on June 3, 1918. Hugh was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Kitchener Branch 50 and then Waterloo Branch 530 for twenty years. Hugh’s wife, Alyson, died in 1971 and he passed away in 1973. They are buried in Parkview Cemetery in Waterloo, Ontario. HEARSEY, Charles Frederick Charles was born in Islington, London, England on July 31, 1896. He was employed as a farmer near Tillsonburg when he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force Oxford’s Own 168th on January 29, 1916. Private Hearsey was killed in action on March 29, 1918 while in the trenches east of Arras, France. He left behind a stepmother in England and two sisters and a brother living in Toronto.
