201 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HAYCOCK, Walter Clare Walter was born in Tillsonburg, Ontario on April 27, 1921. He was employed as a shoe trimming cutter after leaving Tillsonburg High School. He moved to London prior to enlistment. Serving as a member of the Highland Infantry Corps RCIC, Corporal Haycock was killed in action in Holland on October 16, 1944. The City of London maintains a Book of Remembrance in the City Hall lobby which lists his name. HAZLETT, Patricia Joan Patricia was born on March 27, 1959 in Toronto, Ontario. In June 1979, she enlisted with the Air Force and was with unit CFB Borden, CFB Halifax, and IMP PLT Calgary, service in Afghanistan, Peacekeeper and Peace Officer. Patricia served in UNDOF Mission Golan Heights, South East Asia, Camp Mirage and UAE. She participated in many Regional, National and CISM (Council International Sports Military) during her military career. She was a member of CISM Golf Team representing Team Canada at the CISM Golf in 1993, hosted by the American Military at Camp Pendleton, California. She was with the Military Police from 1979 to 1987 and was Physical Education and Recreation Instructor from 1987 to 1996, Recruit Instructor from 1997 to 2000 and Resource Management Clerk (RMS) from 2000 to her discharge in 2012. Patricia volunteers with the Niagara Humane Society in her retirement. HAYTER, Gordon Douglas “Doug” Doug was born in Stephen Township on March 13, 1915. The family later moved to a farm near Thedford, Ontario, and then into Thedford. Doug married Alice Furtney in 1941. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 during World War II and trained in British Columbia. When home on leave, he left for London, Ontario to board a train to Halifax, Nova Scotia. In Halifax, the Essex Scottish Regiment boarded the ship New Amsterdamfor England. Doug trained at Aldershot and then went on to Germany. After being discharged in 1946, Doug worked at Coultis Lumber Mill and at Camp Ipperwash. He and his wife Alice raised a family of six children. He enjoyed playing hockey for the Thedford Lumberjacks, winning the Championship three years in a row. Doug passed away on October 2, 2007 and is buried at Sylvan Cemetery.
