483 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND TURBITT, Thomas “Tom” “Irish” Tom was born on October 7, 1893 in County Monaghan, Ireland, son of an Irish school master. He immigrated to Canada in 1913 and worked at miscellaneous jobs until he enlisted in 4th Division Canadian Corps Cyclist Battalion on February 4, 1916. He served in England, France, Belgium and Germany and was discharged on July 20, 1919. During his stay in England, Tom got leave to go to Ireland and marry Mary Ritchie. They returned to the Listowel, Ontario area after the war’s end and bought a farm which they operated until 1964. During this period they raised five children. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 259 Listowel but which years are unknown. He passed away in Listowel on December 17, 1979. One son, David Gordon Turbitt, served during World War II in the Royal Canadian Air Force. UTTLEY, Douglas James “Doug” Douglas was born on September 8, 1921 to Abraham Uttley and Lecetta (Mahn) in Kitchener, Ontario. He was the youngest of his four siblings: Bea, Mae, Earl and Roy. Doug enlisted into the Army on August 17, 1942 in London, Ontario. Doug served in Canada, Britain and Northwest Europe. After returning from the war in 1946, Doug married Marjorie (Weber) and had two children, James and Pamela. Doug died in 2007 and he is buried in Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener, Ontario. TWOMBLY, Michael Dean “Mike” Mike was born in Springhill, Nova Scotia on April 26, 1956. He enlisted in the Army in May 1973 with the 1 Service Battalion. While Mike was stationed in Borden he received his Chief paper. He did two Peacekeeping tours in Cyprus and also served in Germany and had postings throughout Canada. He was discharged inAugust 1989. Mike is a three-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 123 inWaterford.
