479 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND THRENDYLE, Wallace Logie “Wally” Wally’s parents were Edward and Emma Louise (Logie). He was born in the family farmhouse in Elmwood on August 24, 1924. His nine siblings (Donald, Jean, Cameron, Bruce, Ruth, Melba, twins Grace and Joyce and Keith) were also born in the family farmhouse. He enlisted with the Canadian Army on January 18, 1943 and served as a Gunner until March 25, 1946. During service, he drove in a motorcade and had a bad collision with a war truck. Wally was in hospital for weeks with memory loss before they were able to determine who he was. After the war, Wally returned to farming and had a hundred acre beef cattle farm in Listowel. He married Mildred (Milly) Rose Moser and had four children: Robert Wallace, Karen Marie, Joan Margaret and David Edward. Wally also drove a school bus for many years. He enjoyed playing hockey with his brothers for the Elmwood Lumber Kings. After a lengthy illness with Parkinson’s andAlzheimer’s, Wally passed away on May 7, 1992 and is buried in Hesson, Ontario at the Roman Catholic Church. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Milverton Branch 565. TOURANGEAU, Bert E. Bert was born on March 12, 1926 in Arnprior, ON. He enlisted with The Royal Canadian Navy in 1943 in Ottawa, ON. On a navy Corvette called the “Wetaskiwin”. Their warship served as a convoy escort in the North Atlantic Ocean. He was ranked as Able Seaman. He worked in the ASDIC (Anti Submarine Detection). Upon his discharge in 1945, he returned to his home town of Arnprior, where he is still out and about. In 2017, he received his 70-year pin as a member of Arnprior Branch 174 of The Royal Canadian Legion. He worked for over fifty years for a construction firm. He served on the local fire department, as a volunteer for 21 years. For service to his country and community, the Town of Arnprior honoured him in 2012, with a street to be named “Bert Tourangeau Street” of Arnprior, ON. TILLEY, Alphonsus John Alphonsus was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland on June 25, 1919. He enlisted in the Army in 1939 and served with the Newfoundland Field Regiment in England and North Africa during World War II. He was a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force Club in Lakeview which later became The Royal Canadian Legion. He was a Class A mechanic and worked for Avro Aircraft as a line mechanic and also had a salvage business. He had four brothers who served at home in the armed forces. He was the only family member who saw active service overseas as a member of the British forces. He was awarded five medals, one being the North African Star and King’s Medal for valour for rescuing men on the battlefield.
