471 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND TAPPING (MORRISON), Elizabeth “Betty” Betty was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on July 11, 1926. She worked as a nanny, a position hardly relevant to Army life – so after enlisting in December 1944 basic training in Edinburgh she was sent off to driving school at Camberley in Southern England. Her class included young Princess Elizabeth – now Queen Elizabeth. She met her husband to be – Canadian Serviceman Bud Tapping in Camberley. Betty served in England and later in Calais, France as troops were returning from the various war zones. Her job was to drive them from the train station to the ship that ferried them home over the English Channel. ‘A happier bunch of lads I’ve not seen since!’ She married Bud in Newburgh, Scotland in 1946, then came to Canada as a war bride, first to Leamington and moved later to Toronto. They had two children and celebrated sixty years of wonderful marriage before Bud passed away in 2007. Betty worked for the Canadian Red Cross for 23 years before retiring in 1990. She is a seven-year Royal Canadian Legion member of Mount Dennis Branch 31. TAYLOR, Thomas John Thomas was born in Goodwood, Ontario on October 12, 1890. He enlisted in the Army on September 27, 1914 and served with the 17th Overseas Battalion, Medical Corps as a Stretcher Bearer. He served in Canada, England, France, Dardanelles and Salonika during World War I. Thomas was discharged on April 23, 1919. He passed away in 1925. TAYLOR, George George was born in Fleming, Saskatchewan on January 19, 1906. He enlisted in the Army on September 25, 1939. He served with the Perth Regiment – The Fighting Perths duringWorldWar II until his discharge on November 3, 1945. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Defence Medal, the Canadian War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. George passed away on January 12, 2000. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Cobourg Branch 133 for 53 years.
