453 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SPIELMACHER, Albert Anthony Albert was born on October 17, 1915 in Carlsruhe (Carrick Township), Ontario. His parents, William and Agatha (Druar), had a large family, giving Albert nine siblings: Fr. John, Leander, Sylvester, Elmer, Carl, Stanley, Katherine, Edna and Corinne. He received his education at St. Francis Xavier Grade School. Albert enlisted on July 24, 1940 with the Army and was a Lance Bombardier with the 98th Bruce Anti-Tank Regiment. Albert and his brothers Elmer and Stanley all fought in the war. At one point in Europe, the three were lucky enough to be united for a few days. Albert served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe and was discharged on October 23, 1945. He received the War Medal 1939-1945 as well as the France and Germany Star. After the war, Albert returned to Hanover. He married Madeline (Poechman) and they had six children: Keith, Barbara, Sheila, Anthony, Elaine and Kathleen. Madeline passed away in 1956. Albert later married Dolores (Steffler) and the family grew by four with Cheryl, Colleen, David and Mark. Albert was a member of The Royal Canadian Hanover Legion for many years, where he enjoyed cards and horseshoes. He died on September 12, 1985 and is buried in the Hanover Cemetery (Legion Plot) in Ontario. SPIELMACHER, Stanley “Stan” Stanley was born on January 15, 1925 in Carlsruhe (Carrick Township), Ontario. His parents, William and Agatha (Druar) had a large family, giving Stanley nine siblings: Fr. John, Leander, Albert, Sylvester, Carl, Elmer, Katherine, Edna and Corinne. Stan received his education at St. Francis Xavier Grade School. When he was eighteen years old, he enlisted with the Army. He served as a Gunner with the 52nd Infantry Division, 3rd Armoured Tank Brigade in England and Continental Europe. Stan and his brothers Elmer and Albert all fought in the war. At one point in Europe, the three were lucky enough to be united for a few days. Stan was discharged and returned to civilian life in May of 1946. He married Irene (Lipskie) and they had five children: Glen, Gary, Calvin, Grant and Cindy. He worked at BF Goodrich. Stan was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch. Stan died on July 7, 1980 and is buried in Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener, Ontario. SPIELMACHER, Elmer Frank Elmer was born on April 11, 1921 in Carlsruhe (Carrick Township), Ontario. His parents, William and Agatha (Druar) had a large family, giving Elmer nine siblings: Fr. John, Leander, Albert, Sylvester, Carl, Stan, Katherine, Edna and Corinne. Elmer received his education at St. Francis Xavier Grade School. He enlisted on February 10, 1942 with the Army and was part of the Canadian Scottish Regiment. Elmer and his brothers Stan and Albert all fought in the war. At one point in Europe, the three were lucky enough to be united for a few days. Corporal Spielmacher served with the Canadian Infantry Corps in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe and was discharged on March 6, 1946. He received the War Medal 1939-1945as well as the France and Germany Star. Upon his return to civilian life, Elmer married Lorraine (Lesperance) and they had five children: Linda, Carol, Maxine, Debbie and Patrick. He was a skilled tradesman as a molder maker / fabricator, working for Canadian Blower and Forge for over forty years. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and playing cards. Elmer died on January 8, 2008 at 86 years of age and is buried in Memory Gardens in Breslau, Ontario.
