449 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SMITH, William George William was born in Cobourg, Ontario on September 15, 1936. He enlisted in the Canadian Army Primary Reserve on September 1, 1959. He was discharged on September 17, 1969. William was a 55-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 133 Cobourg. He was in the Pipe Band, Colour Party and Garrison Artillery association. He volunteered for public speaking and poppy tagging. William also attended conventions and general meetings. He did cooking for the Artillery association, the LA barbeques and events. William passed away on December 4, 2014. SMITH, William Stanley Maurice William was born in Liverpool, England on November 7, 1923. He enlisted in the Navy on October 26, 1942 with Fleet Air Arms Royal Navy, 882 Squadron. He served on the HMS Searcher Escort, Fighter Carrier on the North Atlantic (Murmansk Run) and North Sea as well as the Pacific, Singapore and Ceylon during World War II. He received the Atlantic Star, the Defence Medal and the Pacific Star. William was a Leading Air Mechanic, 1st Class A when he discharged on April 5, 1946 and in 1952 he brought his family to Canada. He worked on the Avro ARROW. When the ARROWwas scrapped he started his own Taxi business. He then when back to school to study Engineering and became an inspector for the City of North York. William was a 35-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 426 Newmarket and passed away on June 19, 1989. SMITH, William James William was born Manlius, NewYork on April 26, 1925. He enlisted in the Army on May 9, 1944. He served with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp based at Camp Petawawa. William ended his service as Staff Sergeant on November 5, 1946. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. William passed away on May 19, 1959.
