433 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SELLICK, Harold Samuel Harold was born in Prince Edward Island in 1922. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1939. He was eventually posted to the 1st Anti-Tank Regiment, 92nd Field Battery where he served as a Gunner. On March 27, 1943 he was shipped to England and subsequently saw action with his unit in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Holland, and Germany. Following the war, he was returned to Canada where he received his honourable discharge in 1945. Harold passed away on September 25, 1961. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Oshawa Branch 43. SHANTZ, Percival Lloyd Percival was born in Woodstock, Ontario on March 10, 1891 to Abram Shantz and Henrietta (Broderick) Shantz. He had two brothers, Arthur and Earl. Percival joined the army when they were forming the North Waterloo County Battalion which became the 118th Battalion and was deemed fit for duty on March 22, 1916 and upon arriving in England was assigned to the 25th Battalion. After his attestation papers were in order he spent the rest of World War I in France and Belgium. After the war Percival returned to Kitchener and worked at J. M. Schneider’s for over twenty years. Percival and his wife Catherine (Sachs) had two children; son Merle and daughter Shirley. He was a long-time member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Percival Shantz died on Saturday April 9, 1960 at his home after suffering a heart attack. His son, Warrant Officer II Merle was stationed in Soest, Germany with the Royal Canadian Provost Corps at the time and rushed home to be with the family. Percival is buried in Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener. SETTERINGTON, James Jay James was born in Howard Township, Ontario on September 18, 1950. He enlisted in the Army on October 17, 1967 and served in Canada with the Essex and Kent Scottish Reserve Unit. He was discharged on March 12, 1972. James has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 28 for 45 years. He enjoys cats, kittens, Bach and Beethoven music, quiet sounds of nature, helping family and friends, working with tools and making and fixing things.
