417 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ROYLE, George Bertoft George was born in Montreal, Quebec on May 23, 1913. He joined the Army one week after World War II was declared, enlisting on September 13, 1939. He served in the 1st CanadianAnti-Tank, 27th Battery, Royal CanadianArtillery. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Bar. He served in Canada, England, North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was discharged in December 1945. George passed away on October 31, 1994. He was a Royal Canadian Legion Member of Branch 96 Brockville. RUBIA, Francis “Frank” Francis was born in Stephenville Crossing, Newfoundland on January 16, 1964. He enlisted in the Army on October 15, 1981. MWO Rubia served his country on several UN deployments and has earned UN Service Medals from Somalia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Afghanistan. He was also awarded the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal and NATO Medal for service in Europe. Frank currently resides in Kingston, Ontario with his family. He volunteers with several outreach programs in the City of Kingston. ROYLE, George Byrne George was born in Montreal, Quebec on January 18, 1951. He enlisted in the Army on April 27, 1972 with the Canadian Grenadier Guards. He served in Canada and was discharged on January 10, 1975. George was a member of the Ceremonial Guard performing the changing of the Guard Ceremony on Parliament Hill in Ottawa in 1972, 1973 and 1974. He is a nine-year Royal Canadian Legion member of Branch 638 Kanata.
