403 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND RICHARDSON, Albert Ernest Albert was born in Toronto on September 25, 1931. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in May 1949 and was released on November 17, 1971. He was first sent to Japan while in the Military Police and being attached to the British Commonwealth Unit. Secondly, he was sent to the First Princess Patricia’s Light Infantry with the 25th Canadian Infantry Brigade Group as well as the First Royal Canadian House Artillery “Charlie Battery” in the Koran War from 1952 to 1953. Lastly, he was sent to Egypt with the United Nation’s Emergency Force from 1964 to 1965. He was awarded the following medals: Korean War Medal, Volunteer Service Medal Korea, Special Service Medal with a Clasp, Peacekeeping Medal, United Nations Korean War Medal with a Clasp, United Nations Emergency Forces Medal Egypt and Canadian Decoration Medal. Albert is a 44-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion John McMartin Branch 297 in Cornwall. RIMMER, James E. James was born in Liverpool, England on October 23, 1933. He enlisted in the Army on January 21, 1951. He was awarded the General Service Medal and Clasp and served in Egypt and Malaya. James was discharged on March 21, 1955. RICHARDSON, Charles Allison Charles was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on March 25, 1921. He joined the Army at the age of nineteen with his best friend Jack Slater in London, Ontario. With his skills as a tradesman in welding and weapons, he was assigned to the RCEME Corps. In September 1941, he went overseas. There were three ships in convoy with no destroyer protection. Once they reached Iceland, Charles got his first war experience. The ship was put in full alert; Charles was in charge of a Lewis gun on deck defending it against a German submarine. They successfully landed in Liverpool and made their way to the south coast to Salisbury Plains. He was posted to the 3rd Division Antitank as an armament artificer and landed on D-Day with the 3rd Division F Echelon. His experience took him through France, Holland and Germany during World War II. He was discharged on February 5, 1946 and received the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, both Defence and Service Medals and the Distinguished Service Medal. He was a Royal Canadian Legion member of Branch 143 inWindsor, Ontario for over fifty years. Charles passed away on February 6, 2011.
