401 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND REYNOLDS, Bert Leonard Bert was born in Toronto, Ontario on April 11, 1927. He enlisted in the Navy in October 1944. Because Bert was in the Sea Cadets, he qualified to join the Navy when he was seventeen years six months old and he enlisted as soon as he reached that age. He was an Ordinary Seaman in the RCNVR. He did his basic training at HMCS Chippawa in Winnipeg and then was posted to HMCS Star in Hamilton. In February 1945 his brother was killed in action in Germany. Bert was desperate to be assigned to a ship but despite all his effort he had no luck. In May 1945 when the war was over, he volunteered to serve in the Pacific but before he could get there Japan surrendered and the war was over. He was subsequently discharged in October 1945. Bert was 34-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Penetanguishene Branch 68. He passed away on October 9, 2018. RICHARD, Marcel J. E. Marcel was born in Quebec City on July 19, 1935. He enlisted in the Air Force on April 26, 1955. He had Contact Training, School of English and Basic Training in St. Jean d’Iberville, Quebec. Then he completed a course in bookkeeping in Aylmer, ON. He was stationed at bases of Clinton and Centralia, ON where he was a member of the Trumpet and Drum Band as a drummer. He was also a member of hockey and baseball teams. He met a girl from Goderich in 1956 and they were married in 1959. They raised five children and divorced. Marcel has worked for 34 years at the Sifto Saltmine. He is currently in a relationship with his soul mate. RICHARD, George Francois George was born on August 30, 1910 in La Orova Caravaga, Peru. He enlisted in the Army on September 7, 1939 with the RCEME and served as a garage mechanic. He served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, 1939-1945 Star, the Defence Medal and the France and Germany Star. He was discharged on September 28, 1945. George passed away on January 22, 1983.
