395 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND RAHN, Robert Henry Robert was born on February 17, 1921 to Jacob and Edith Rahn of Waterloo. He had one brother named Kenneth. Growing up, Robert attended school at Elizabeth Ziegler Public School as well as Kitchener and Waterloo Collegiate. He was an inventory clerk at Dominion Tire before the war. He enlisted with the Air Force on May 27, 1942 and was assigned to the 1664 Heavy Conversion Unit, RAF Air Bomber Command. On January 31, 1944 while the crew of the Halifax Bomber engaged the enemy, their plane was brought down in the English hillside. A memorial was unveiled 62 years after the tragedy to remember the crash that killed all crew members aboard. For his service to Canada, Sergeant Rahn was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, War Medal 1939-1945, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp as well as his Operational Wings. A memorial bar was sent to his father. Sgt. Rahn is buried in Harrogate (Stonefall) Cemetery in Yorkshire, England. He is also gratefully remembered today as a “Son of Waterloo” and his picture hangs on the Memorial Wall in the City Hall in Waterloo, Ontario. RAMSAY, Brock Allanby Brock was born on December 6, 1920 in the Town of Sharon, Ontario. He was the son of Ethel and Frank Ramsay. On April 25, 1942, Brock enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served with the 436 Burma Star Squadron in India and Burma. He was discharged from the RCAF on November 27, 1945. Brock received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, 1939-1945 Star, War Medal 19391945 and Burma Star. After being discharged, Brock attended the University of Toronto and graduated in Mining Geology. On October 6, 1951 Brock married Marion Salter. They lived in Val-d’Or, Quebec and raised two children. Brock passed away on April 9, 1978. RAINSFORD, Arthur William Arthur was born on September 9, 1896 in New Hampshire, USA. He enlisted in the Army on July 19, 1915. He served in Canada, England and France with the 3rd DD, CMR during World War I. He was wounded in France and after hospital time in England he was sent back into action in France. He was discharged on August 13, 1919. Arthur passed away on November 23, 1936.
