387 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND POLLOCK, George George was born in Iroquois, Ontario on September 27, 1937. He enlisted in the Air Force on October 29, 1954 as an Air Force Supply Technician. After integration of the Canadian Forces he served on the HMCS Ottawa and HMCS Fraser. He served in Canada, France, Egypt and on the High Seas. He was discharged on December 26, 1992. George was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration and two Bars and the UNEF 2 and Diamond Jubilee Medals. He was a Royal Canadian Legion charter member of Branch 638 whose active support to the Branch has been recognized by the Legion MSM and Palm Leaf. He has been a member of Branch 638 Kanata for 28 years. POWELL, George Wellington “Sandy” Sandy was born in Bosanquet Township, Thedford, Ontario on November 8, 1916, the son of George and Florence Powell. He joined the Army in August 1939 and after basic training went to England, France, Belgium, and Holland during World War II. He was discharged from Wolseley Barracks in London, Ontario on August 6, 1946. He received the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Sandy returned home to his wife, Aletha, and they had two children, Steve and Ruth. He farmed in the Thedford area until his death on April 1, 1982. Sandy was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch in Thedford. POTTER, George Arthur George was born on January 6, 1923 to William and Effie Potter of Waterloo. He had three brothers William (who also served overseas during the war), Robert and Charles as well as a younger sister named Elsie. George enlisted on October 16, 1941 and was a gunner with the Royal Canadian Artillery. For his service to Canada, he was awarded the 1939 -1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Gunner George Potter was killed in action on February 24, 1945 in the fields inWestern Europe. He is buried in the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands. He is also gratefully remembered today as a “Son of Waterloo” and his picture hangs on the Memorial Wall in the City Hall in Waterloo, Ontario.
