385 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PERRY, Kenneth William Kenneth was born in Toronto, Ontario on February 22, 1921. He enlisted in the Army on June 29, 1942 with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. He served during WorldWar II in the United Kingdom, the Central MediterraneanArea and Continental Europe. He was discharged on November 19, 1945. Returning to civilian life, Ken worked for the railroad until he retired in 1986, living in Unionville, Ontario. He was a Cubmaster of the 68th Cub Pack in West Toronto. Ken and his wife Emily fostered many children at their home in Toronto. Kenneth passed away on August 24, 1993. PILON, Napoleon Jerome “Joe” Joe was born at Meldrum Bay on the Manitoulin Island on February 12, 1929. His Navy rank was LSCR1 – Leading Seaman Communications Radio 1st Class. On August 1, 1953 he was awarded the Korean Medal and on February 1, 1954 the United Nations Service Medal. Joe worked at Albao Lake land base radio station as a radio/telegraph operator from June 24, 1949 to April 2, 1950 and then again from March 19, 1951 to February 22, 1953. He served on the mine sweeper HMCS Portage April 3, 1950 to March 18, 1951. Aboard the destroyer HMCS Iroquois Joe left Halifax bound for Korea on April 29, 1953. He arrived in Sasebo, Japan on June 16, 1953 and armistice was signed on July 27, 1953. His career job was telegraph operator for the Canadian Pacific Railway for 31 years. One of his first postings for the CPR was in Missanabie, Ontario. There through correspondence he became certified radio and television repair person. His business Joe’s Radio and TV flourished in Coniston when he was stationed at Romford in 1957. He and his wife Lucy (Casas) lived in Sudbury and had five children. He always returned to Manitoulin to enjoy fishing and boating. Joe died on November 15, 2015. PHILP, Sidney George “Sid” Sidney was born on August 1, 1924 in Midland, Ontario. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1941 and was attached to the 419, 426, 429, 433 and 434 Squadrons. He served as a navigator flying out of Linton on Ouse base inYork, England during World War II. Sidney loved the city of York and met his future wife, Mary, there and they married on November 11, 1944 at St. Olave Church. He was discharged in 1946. Sid and Mary settled in Quebec and raised five children. He left the CNR in 1951 to work for Alcan in their transportation department in Montreal. Upon retirement they bought a farm in Jasper, ON and Sid became a member of the Smiths Falls Legion Branch. He passed away on April 13, 2006 in Brockville, ON.
