383 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PEARSE, Robert Morden Robert was born in Cobourg, Ontario on August 20, 1936. He enlisted in the Air Force on January 21, 1953 with the Air Defence Command as a NORADAir Defence Technician and Fighter Control. While stationed near Sudbury, Ontario, Robert had a motorcycle accident in 1956 and sustained a permanent spiral cord injury. Although the doctors told him he would not walk again Robert refused to believe them and set his mind on doing whatever he had to do to make it happen. He had his accident while he was heading to his brother’s house with his friend seated behind him. Although his friend was badly shaken, he only got a bloody nose and was able to seek help for Robert from a nearby Air Force base. They were speeding and not thinking they could get hurt. “When you are young, there are some things you just do. We were stupid. I don’t take anything back.” Robert spent about six months undergoing physical rehabilitation, including psychiatric treatment at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. Through perseverance, he walked again. Following his rehabilitation, Robert returned to serve at the Air Force. Robert served in Canada until his discharge on November 4, 1972. He is a 47-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Cobourg Branch 133. Robert also has been a member of Spinal Cord Injury Ontario for fifteen years and shows his support as a donor. PERKS, Robert Gordon Robert was born in Hamilton, Ontario on December 20, 1930. He enlisted in the Navy and served on HMCS Magnificent, Trinity, Ottawa, Cape Breton and Grand Bay. He served for five years as a Radar Operator (RO) on the High Seas. PELLETIER, Denis Patrick Denis was born on March 13, 1949 in Timmins, Ontario. He enlisted on September 8, 1967, joining the Algonquin Regiment and transferred to the Irish Regiment of Canada before joining the regular army Personnel Selection Branch. He left the Army with the rank of Major in July 2007 and joined CIC Air serving until March 2014. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration with three Bars and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal. He is a 48 year Royal Canadian Legion member of Branch 638 Kanata.
