381 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PARSONS, George W. George was born on June 26, 1912 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He moved to Ottawa and joined the Army in 1940. George served until 1962 finishing with the rank as Sergeant. Upon leaving the military George lived in Cobourg, Ontario where he worked for Kraft Foods and later drove a school bus. George and his wife Teresa had five daughters. He passed away on January 25, 1999. PATON, John Robert “Jack” Jack was born in Kelfield, Saskatchewan on February 20, 1921. He joined the Canadian Army on May 27, 1941 at Wolsley Barracks in London, ON. He served in England and Continental Europe with the RCASC 28th Regiment, BCR, 4thArmoured Division. He attained the rank of Sergeant. En route from Halifax, NS to Liverpool Jack asked a sailor “How far are we from land?” The sailor replied that the closest land was two miles straight down. He enjoyed meeting his brother, Douglas, who served as a Mosquito pilot with the 410 Squadron while they were both on leave. At the conclusion of hostilities, Jack remained in overseas and worked from the Amsterdam Olympic Stadium where he assisted displaced persons (D.P.s) to find their family members until he attained sufficient points to return home to Canada. He was discharged on March 20, 1946. Jack passed away on June 4, 1997. PATERSON, William George William was born on October 5, 1909 in Almonte, Ontario. He enlisted in the Air Force on July 24, 1942. He served in Canada during World War II. He reached the rank of Sergeant, being stationed in Halifax. He was an aircraft recognition instructor to teach the young pilots how to identify the aircraft in Europe. His uniform and teaching book were donated to the Perth Legion museum. William passed away on November 3, 1995.
