377 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PARKER, Grant Steadman Grant was born in Strathroy, Ontario on July 1, 1921. He enlisted in the Canadian Army (Active) on May 5, 1943 at Chatham, ON. After his training at Wolseley Barracks London, Borden and Chatham, ON he went to serve with the Armoured Corps and became part of the Armoured VIII Canadian Recce Regiment serving with the 14th Canadian Hussars. He was trained to be a Driver/Mechanic and his areas of operation were England, France, Germany, Belgium and Holland. His medals include the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. Grant was discharged at Wolseley Barracks in London, Ontario on February 16, 1946 at the rank of Trooper and passed away on March 18, 2004. Grant had been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Sir Arthur Currie Branch 116 in Strathroy for over forty years. PARKER, Mervyn C. “Merv” Mervyn was born in Middleton, Nova Scotia on March 23, 1942. He served in RCAF University Reserve 1960, enlisting in RCAF regular Force on September 5, 1967. He was posted to Canadian Forces School of Intelligence/Security at CFB Borden, he transferred toAir Defence Command Longueuil, Quebec and promoted to Captain. He was sent to 447 Sam Squadron, Bomare Missile base as officer in charge, Military Police /Security. After further training Merv was assigned Officer in charge of VIP security detail for Secretary of State during fact finding mission in Vietnam with ICCS. He was transferred as Commandant of Military Detention Facility CFE Lahr. He returned to Ottawa NDHQ as staff Officer for various security projects and inspections. In 1981 Merv resigned from the Canadian Forces accepting a position as Regional Security Officer, Foreign Affairs in Ottawa. In 1986 he transferred to Transport Canada as Deputy Chief Superintendent Security at Pearson International Airport. In 1997 Merv retired from public service after thirty years of honourable and decorated service. Merv is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 220 in Shelburne. PARKER, James Boon James was born in 1891. He enlisted in the Army and served during World War I. He returned to the Thedford area and farmed. James passed away in 1985.
