375 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND OSTELL, Ruth Marie Ruth was born in Kitchener, Ontario on July 7, 1925. Her parents were Rachel (Frey) and Richard Ostell. Ruth had four siblings - John, Ken, Marilyn and Irene. She enlisted in the Canadian Army on March 29, 1943 at 23 years of age and quickly attained the rank of Sergeant. Her tradesman qualifications certificate described her as an Operator, Punch Card Tabulating Machine “B” in the CanadianWomen’s Army Corps (for 33 months). She was discharged on July 9, 1946 (on demobilization) to return to civilian life. Ruth received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal during her service. After the war, Ruth had a long career with Dominion Life/Manulife Insurance Company as a Taxation Specialist. Along with her mother and sister, Ruth was a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary and served them as President from 1981 to 1987. Ruth passed away on June 13, 2007 (three months after her sister Marilyn) and her ashes are spread at the Garden of Memory scattering garden at Parkview Cemetery in Waterloo. PARKER, Gordon James Gordon was born in Strathroy, Ontario on December 14, 1895. He enlisted in World War I with the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) on October 27, 1917 at Wolseley Barracks London, Ontario. After his training he was shipped to England onboard RMS Durham Castle arriving September 25, 1918 as a member of the CanadianArmy Service Corps (CASC). Gordon served with the 4th Hamilton Battery and the 8th Battery, 3rd Brigade. Due to demobilization, on return from overseas he was discharged on August 17, 1919. James passed away on January 1, 1971. OXENHAM, Sidney E. Sidney was born in Toronto, Ontario on November 5, 1923. He served with the 436 Squadron in Burma, India and in Europe during World War II.
