365 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MYERS, Alvin John Alvin was born in Stratford, Ontario on August 28, 1921. He enlisted in the Air Force in June 1942 and was a Navigator on the Lancaster Bomber with 431 Squadron, 428 Squadron. He did nineteen operations in German cities during World War II. Alvin was discharged in August 1945. NEAL, William James “Bill” Bill was born in Elder’s Mills, Vaughan Township, Ontario on September 23, 1897. He enlisted in Toronto on November 16, 1916 and embarked for overseas on December 20, 1916 eventually joining the 21st Battalion, CEF in the field on October 10, 1917. He received severe gunshot shrapnel wounds in the back, left leg and left thumb on November 28, 1917. He was evacuated to England on December 11, 1917 and eventually returned to Canada for discharge on February 11, 1919. Bill entered the automobile business in 1921 in Woodbridge, Ontario moving eventually to Richmond Hill in 1930 where he opened one of the first Dodge dealerships in 1931. He became the local vehicle license issuer in 1934 and operated this business along with his wife Annie and five sons for many years. Meanwhile, he served the town of Richmond Hill as a Councillor, Reeve and Mayor. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Richmond Hill Branch 375. Bill is commemorated in the town with both a park and a street named after him. He passed away on June 15, 1979. MYERS, Eileen Nora Eileen was born in Jerusalem, Palestine on November 1, 1923. She enlisted in the Women’s Royal Navy in 1942. She served in England during World War II and was discharged in 1945. Eileen raised three children, Jack, Arlene and Shelly. She was a scout leader and a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 197 in Acton. Eileen passed away on May 13, 2009.
