349 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MILLER, Ralph Ralph was a born on December 22, 1948 in Ottawa. He enlisted in the RCMP on September 8, 1969. He was discharged on January 2, 2001. He was a member of Branch 51 Niagara Falls before joining Branch 638 Kanata. He was awarded The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Service Silver Long Service Medal. Ralph is a Life Member of Branch 638 Kanata. MILNE, Robert Strahan Robert was born on September 24, 1914 to James and Susan (Strahan) Milne in Scotland. He had one brother. He was married to Mary Genevieve and they had a daughter. Robert enlisted with the Army on May 20, 1940 and was a Sapper with the Royal Canadian Engineers, 11th Field Company. For his service to Canada, he was awarded the 1939 -1945 Star, France and Germany Medal, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. On behalf of the Minister of National Defence and all Ranks of the Canadian Army, The Belgian Government confirmed the Award of Croix de Guerre 1940 avec Palme upon Sapper Robert Strahan Milne - granted in recognition of his outstanding contribution toward the liberation of Belgium during World War II. Sapper Milne died in the field in France on October 1, 1944. He is buried at the Bergen-op-Zoom Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands. He is also gratefully remembered today as a “Son of Waterloo” and his picture hangs on the Memorial Wall in the City Hall in Waterloo, Ontario. MILLER, Russell Russell was born on July 26, 1924 in Buffalo, New York. After immigrating and becoming a Canadian Citizen he enlisted in the CanadianArmy (Active) in September 1942 at Montreal, Quebec and went for training at Farnham, Quebec. He served as a driver/mechanic with the Royal Canadian Artillery in England, France, Germany and Belgium and was at the Normandy invasion. He had been overseas a total of 1026 days. His medals include the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. After WWII, Russell was honourably discharged in November 1946 at the rank of Private but went on to serve again in the Canadian Forces from 1951 to 1958 where he attained the rank of Sergeant. Russell was also a member of the Militia during the period 1964 to 1975 where he was a qualified motor driver examiner and attained the rank of Warrant Officer. Russell passed away on May 31, 2011 at the age of 86.
