323 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McCRACKEN, George K. George was born on May 23, 1920 in Wallace Township, near Listowel, Ontario. He volunteered to join the Army in February 1942 and served with RCOC and RCE until his discharge in October 1945. During the war his unit was building a bridge when they were attacked by Germans. During the attack, George caught a hand grenade and threw it away, in doing so he fell off of the bridge injuring himself. George was the designated Boxer for his unit. He married Lily (Farley) in England. After the war they farmed in Stratford and later in Elma Township where they raised a family of six. George passed away in 1962 of cancer. McCRACKEN, Robert Dean Robert was born in Cobourg, Ontario on December 24, 1942. He joined the Regular Force Army on April 10, 1962 with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He served in Germany and Canada until his discharge on July 22, 1965. Robert is a 47-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 133, Cobourg. McCRACKEN, Murray L. Murray was born in Listowel, Ontario on January 16, 1936. He joined the Air Force on January 16, 1953. He did basic training in Saint-Jean, Quebec and trade training at Camp Borden, Ontario. He served doing maintenance and repair of instruments in transport and fighter aircraft at Trenton, Ontario. He was discharged on January 16, 1956. Murray is a 21-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 259 in Listowel.
