295 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LUFT, Fred Christian Fred was born on February 17, 1897 in Berlin (Kitchener), Ontario to Julius and Susana (Hopp). Fred was one of eight children in their family. He enlisted with the 108th Regiment onApril 17, 1916 and after training, transferred to the 118th Battalion. He was shipped to England aboard the SS Scandinavian on January 23, 1917. Fred was discharged in 1919. He married Emma (Hillier) on June 23, 1921 and they had three children. Unfortunately, Emma passed away in 1933. Love was found again and he married Hilda Ernestina White. Shortly after his 69th birthday, Fred became sick and while in St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener, he passed away on August 3, 1966. Fred Luft is buried at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Kitchener, Ontario. LYON, Duncan Austin Duncan was born in Newton-le-Willows, United Kingdom on St. Patrick’s Day, 1939. He was educated locally and received his BA and Degree in Theology at Durham University. Ordained into the Church of England as a Deacon in 1962 and Priested in 1963, he served the Church for 57 years. He immigrated to Canada in 1976 with his wife Wendy and son Matthew, he immediately became involved in Cadet and Legion Chaplaincy working in the Diocese of Algoma. In 1986 the family moved to the Diocese of Niagara, where he became Padre to the Lincoln andWelland Regiment in 1987. He also served as Padre to The Royal Canadian Legion Branches 124 and 479, the RCVA, the RCNA, the RCAA and Order of St. George. He brought the “Out of the Cold” programme to Niagara Falls and helped to establish a Veterans Resources Centre at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 479 and delivered the Remembrance Day address at the Parade Service for many years. He remained Padre to Branch 479 and Padre Emeritus to the Lincoln and Welland Regiment until his death on July 1, 2018. LUKE, Morley M. Morley was born in Scott Township, Ontario on April 12, 1924. He enlisted in the Air Force on March 22, 1943. He was Navigator in Mosquito aircraft and served in the United Kingdom and Europe during World War II at the rank of LAC. He was discharged on February 25, 1946. After the war, he attended Agriculture College in Guelph for two years then became a Computer Programmer at General Motors. He was a member of The Royal Canadian LegionWaterloo Branch. Morley passed away on February 17, 1989.
