291 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LONG, Thomas Richard Thomas was born on November 21, 1943 in Owen Sound, Ontario. He enlisted with the Infantry (1RCR) Royal Canadian Regiment Regular Force in October 1961, before switching to a new trade as a Refinisher Technician in August 1977. During his 26-year career he was posted to Ipperwash, London, North Bay, Trenton, Ontario and Germany. In addition to his domestic postings, Thomas was tasked at the FLQ crisis in Quebec in 1974, flood disaster operations in North Bay and firefighting disaster operations in Petawawa. His decoration and awards include the United Nations Forces in Cyprus (4 tours), the Special Service Medal (NATO Bar-Germany), the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal and (CD1) Canadian Forces Decoration for 22 plus years of service. Thomas retired at the rank of Corporal in June 1987 and lives in Keady, Ontario. He is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion with Branch 464 in Chatsworth, Ontario. LONGMIRE, George Christopher George was born in Southampton, Ontario on October 4, 1896. He enlisted in the Army on March 1, 1916 and served in Europe and England with the Infantry, 160th Battalion during World War I. He was discharged in 1919. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 155 in Southampton. George passed away on May 6, 1983. LONGMIRE, Edmund Ernest Edmund was born in Stratford, Ontario on July 25, 1932. He enlisted in the Army on November 15, 1957 and served with the Queen’s Own Rifles in Canada. He was discharged on November 22, 1960. Edmund passed away on February 11, 1993.
