285 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LEGAULT, Gerard Albert “Jerry” Jerry was born in Penetanguishene, Ontario on June 12, 1931. He enlisted in the Army on October 19, 1951. He served in Canada, the Far East and Korea before being honourably discharged on December 4, 1954. Gerard received the Korea Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 256 in Toronto for thirty years. Jerry passed away on February 10, 2018. LEGGATE, Nellie Nellie was born in Warwick Township, Waterford, Ontario on January 9, 1886. She joined the Army in 1917 and was discharged in 1918. Nellie returned home, married, and moved to Toledo, Ohio. She was on supervisory staff for 33 years before her retirement in April 1958. Nellie passed away on March 15, 1963. LEGGATE, George Cameron George was born in Warwick Township, Watford, Ontario on January 31, 1896, son of John and Mary Leggate. He enlisted on April 16, 1918 and was in the 47th Battalion. George served in England and in France during World War I. He was discharged on June 6, 1919. His pay slip for one month was at the rate of $24. George returned home and bought a farm near Arkona, Ontario. He married Marion Benedict and they raised seven children. He farmed and was a butcher before his retirement. He then moved to Arkona. George passed away on June 15, 1970.
