273 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KNIGHTON, Daniel Paul “Dan” Daniel was born in Nanaimo, BC on August 14, 1949. He enlisted in the Army on September 10, 1969 with the RCEME and Royal Canadian Signals. Dan served in Canada, Germany, Bermuda, Italy and the USA and was discharged March 31, 1996. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration, the Special Service Medal Bar Alert, NATO and Canada 125th Medals. Dan is a twenty-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Kanata Branch 638. KRUEGER, Edward Carl Edward was born on May 20, 1920 in Sullivan Township, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and trained as a Nursing Orderly in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp. He went to a hospital in England and served during World War II. He was discharged in 1946. Edward married Marie Ruhl of Hanover, Ontario on April 6, 1948 and they resided on the farm in Sullivan Township, which Edward had purchased through the VLA Lot24N1/2 Con.8 Sullivan. Edward lived on the farm until 1999 when he moved to Chatsworth and joined the Chatsworth Royal Canadian Legion Branch 464. Edward worked off the farm doing carpentry and roofing jobs. Edward and Marie had two children Nancy (BC) and Robert (family farm). Edward passed away in January 2005. KROPF, Henry Henry was born on January 7, 1893 to George and Catherine (Boecking) Kropf in Berlin (Kitchener), Ontario. After school, he was working in a factory in Kitchener. In 1914, he joined the military with the 108th Regiment, receiving his training in various places across Ontario. He sailed to Europe with the 71st Battalion 1st Reinforcing Draft on November 20, 1915 aboard the SS Metamama. After returning from war, he married Mynetta Gies and they had four daughters: Jeanne, Elaine, Adele and Kathryn. Henry worked for and retired from Carling Breweries. When World War II broke out, Henry joined up again with the Veterans Guards of Canada. Henry lived all his life in Waterloo and was a Charter and Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Waterloo Branch 530. After a lengthy illness, Henry passed away on July 11, 1960 and is buried at Memory Gardens in Breslau, Ontario. Henry Kropf’s name is listed on the Plaque #1 of the Waterloo Legion’s Veteran Memorial Wall.
