261 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND JOCQUE, Joseph Cyril Joseph was born on April 11, 1919 in Oshawa, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Princess Louise Dragoons Guards during World War II. He served in England, Sicily, Italy and France and was discharged in September 1944. Joseph passed away on March 12, 1990. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Acton Branch 197. JOHNSON, Lorne E. Lorne was born in Thedford, Bosanquet Township in 1915. Shortly after the war began and his wife had died, Lorne joined the Canadian Army. He landed at Juno Beach on D-Day. He fought across Normandy, survived the Battle of the Rhineland and participated in the liberation of the Netherlands. On May 3, 1945 Lorne was killed in action, only two days before the Germans surrendered on Field Marshall Montgomery’s front. Lorne’s mother received the telegram that notified of his death, two days after VE-Day. She hoped that there had been some kind of mistake. Lorne left behind a daughter, parents and brother. He is buried in the Netherlands. JOHNSON, George William “Johnny” Johnny was born in Hamilton, Ontario on June 8, 1922. He served in the Army before enlisting in the Air Force on January 30, 1941. He trained at No.1 ITS, No.1 EFTS and No.6 SFTS. He instructed at No.6 SFTS and No.1 OTU, Bagotville from January 31 to May 8, 1943. He was posted overseas serving in No.411 Squadron from July 20, 1943 to August 5, 1944 where he shot down a Hun fighter over the invasion beaches on June 7, the day after D-Day and No.401 Squadron from August 5 to October 30, 1944. He also instructed in the UK with No.61 OTU. He served in Europe during World War II with a Spitfire Squadron. He was a leading Hamilton ace, with at least eight enemy places to his credit. Johnny was discharged on September 4, 1945 with the rank of Flight-Lieutenant. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Bar. Johnny passed away on July 10, 1985.
