251 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HUMMELL, Richard Albert “Rick” Rick, the son of the late Albert and Mary Cleary, was born on July 24, 1953 in Montreal, Quebec. He joined the Black Watch cadets in 1964, eventually becoming a ‘boy’ solider joining the Black Watch (RHR) of Canada, 3rd Battalion eventually rising to the rank of Warrant Officer and retired in 1991 after 22 years of proud service. As well as being an Infantryman, who loved instructing, Rick qualified as a Radio Operator becoming Brigade Signaler. He served the Regiment as an instructor and battalion transport NCO. Rick spent eight years posted to CFBValcartier serving as the Standards NCO in the Battle School and a ‘Grizley’ driver instructor. In civilian life, Rick was a long haul truck driver and a driving instructor. He had two sons Andrew and Paul. Rick moved to Montreal to retire with his partner Karen Sutcliffe also of the Black Watch (CWAC) in Windsor in 2016. He now lives with her and her Service Dog ‘NSD Bailey’ and works part-time as a Security Guard. Rick is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Riverside Branch 255 in Windsor. HUNTER, Arthur Arthur was born in Coatbridge, Scotland on May 1, 1894. He enlisted in the Army on September 7, 1914 with the 2nd Dragoons Royal Scots Greys. He served in Belgium and France during World War I. He was wounded twice; he was awarded a Military Medal for gallantry on November 6, 1918, near Cartignies, France. He was discharged on April 3, 1919. He served in the Toronto Scottish Reserve in World War II. He came to Toronto in 1928 and worked there for forty years with the Bank of Montreal. Arthur died in Napanee on May 5, 1987. HUNKING, Harvey Harvey was born in Hullett Township, Huron County, Ontario on July 30, 1892. He enlisted on May 13, 1916 and served in France with the 161st OS Battalion, CEF, 47th Canadian Infantry in France during World War I. He was wounded on July 22, 1918, receiving gunshot wounds in the back, shoulder, right ear and left leg. He was left with some shrapnel and returned to active duty on September 27, 1918. He was discharged on January 22, 1919. Harvey passed away on July 16, 1971.
