249 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HUDSON, John John was born on August 1, 1892 in Richmond, Quebec. He enlisted on December 21, 1915 in the Canadian Expeditionary Force, Eastern Townships 117th Battalion, at age 22, with the rank of Sapper. On August 16 the 117th CEF left Valcartier for Halifax and subsequently sailed on the Empress of Britain to Liverpool, England on August 24, 1916. In January, the members of the 117th were drafted to other battalions and sent to France. John was initially drafted to the 23rd Reserve Battalion on February 1, 1917, and from there to the 2nd Labour Corps Battalion, and then to the 12th Battalion Canadian Railway Troup, where he took part in building of railroads in multiple locations including Vimy Ridge and Belgium. He received his honourable discharge in Montreal on February 27, 1919 with the rank of Sapper, Royal Canadian Engineers. After discharge he started farming and raised eight children, five of whom enlisted in the Canadian military (four in WWII and one in NATO Black Watch). John passed away on August 20, 1960 at Magog, Quebec. HULLEY, Gordon O. Gordon was born on August 3, 1937 in Brussels, Ontario. He was raised in Monkton, Ontario. He joined the Navy in April 1956 at HMCS Prevost in London, Ontario. He then served on the HMCS Cornwallis, HMCS Buckingham, HMCS Stadacona, HMCS Bonaventure and HMCS Restigouche. Gordon was discharged in April 1961. He moved to Goderich, Ontario. Gordon is a 57-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Goderich Branch 109. HUGHES, Raymond W. Raymond was born in Stockton, Manitoba on December 20, 1904. He enlisted in the Army in September 1939. He served in the Canadian Dental Corps with the 122 Canadian Heavy Artillery Regiment. Major Raymond W. Hughes identified the dead post-battle according to their dental charts, as the dental records provided positive identification. He served overseas from fall 1942 until the end of World War II in 1945. He had never seen his daughter, Nancy who was born in 1943. He worked for the DVA in Toronto from 1946 to 1948. He opened a private dental practice in April 1949 in Goderich. Raymond retired in September 1973. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Goderich Branch 109 for many years. Raymond passed away on February 24, 1982.
