247 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HOZA, Carolyn “Carrie” Carrie, the daughter of Legion Member Phil Hoza, was born in Evanston, Illinois on January 31, 1974. She graduated from Carroll College with her Army commission fromMarquette University. As a 2nd Lieutenant in the USArmy Transportation Corps, she served in the 21D, Camp Nimble, Republic of South Korea as a platoon leader. After Korea, 1 LT Hoza established an 88m Transportation School in El Paso, TX. Completing her commitment, Carrie joined Harley-Davidson. In December 2003, she was mobilized with the 660th Transportation Company from Cadiz, OH and deployed to LSA Anaconda, Balad, Iraq in February 2004. During her tour she was promoted to CPT and also served as 3rd Platoon’s Convoy Commander, escorting JP8 fuel trucks throughout the Sunni Triangle. The 660th transported over 87,065,000 liters of JP8 jet fuel and traveled over 1,500,000 kilometers throughout Iraq. The 660th lost five soldiers and three contract drivers. The 660th returned home February 7, 2005, always remembering SGT James Harlan, SSG Donald Davis, SSG Richard Morgan, SPCAllen Nolan and SGT Robert Edwards. Carrie received the Bronze Star Medal for leadership and service. She is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Cobourg Branch 133. HUDSON, Frederick John Joseph “Fred” Fred was born in Fitch Bay, Quebec on March 16, 1938. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on November 19, 1956 at the age of eighteen, as a member of the 1st Canadian Battalion, Black Watch. He passed basic training in Canada, serving there but most of his service was with NATO Forces in Germany. He received his honourable discharge on November 20, 1962. Fred started his career with General Motors Canada on January 8, 1964, working there until his retirement on July 1, 2000. He is a proud and highly respected member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Sir Sam Hughes Branch 67, Lindsay with seventeen years of service with many of those years on the Branch Executive Committee and the Branch Colour Party. HOZA, Philip James III Philip was born in Evanston, Illinois on April 25, 1943. Captain Hoza attended the University of North Dakota Reserve Officers Training Corps, graduating as a Distinguished Military Graduate. He attended Officers Basic Training at Ft Knox, Kentucky and was commissioned a USArmy Armor Platoon Leader. At Fort Rucker, Alabama he graduated as an Army Aviator. Lieutenant Hoza was assigned to Vietnam in September 1967 with The 336th Armed Helicopter Company Soc Trang, RVN. He was assigned to The Warriors lift platoon and then the T-Birds, a gunship platoon. During the Vietnam Tet Offensive in January 1968, Lieutenant Hoza was wounded by enemy fire on February 10, 1968. Captain Hoza completed his military service as an Instructor Pilot in Savannah, Georgia. He served in Vietnam four months, 28 days and flew 533 combat hours, receiving nineteen combat decorations: 1 Purple Heart, 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses, 1 Air Medal for Valor, 15 Air Medal Decorations for aerial flight and flew a total of 1,305 hours with the United States Army. Philip is a three-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Cobourg Branch 133.
