243 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HOLLYER, Edgar H. Edgar was born inYork, Ontario on July 25, 1922. He served with the Air Force and the Army during World War II and the Korean War. He enlisted on September 1, 1942. Lieutenant Colenol Hollyer was awarded the Military Cross as a 2nd Lieutenant in charge of the 7th Platoon of the Royal Canadian Regiment, 3rd Battalion in Korea. He was discharged on March 20, 1974. He was awarded the Canadian Forces’ Decoration and Clasp, theWar Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian and United Nation Korea Medals. He was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 638 in Kanata. Edgar passed away on July 4, 2013. HOOD, Harold Joseph Harold was born July 6, 1917 in Scugog Island, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in 1940. He went overseas in July 1941. He learned his trade of harness maker at Jeffrey and Taylor harness shop in Port Perry. As well as being a BREN gunner he served as equipment repairer for the regiment. He landed around noon on June 6, 1944, D-Day with the 9th Brigade, SD&G Highlanders, 1st Battalion. At wars end he stayed in Europe and was repatriated in 1946. His wife-to-be Pieternella Van Eck followed him to Canada in 1947. He worked at the Westclox factory in Peterborough. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Peterborough Branch 52. Harold passed away on January 19, 1990. HOOD, Gordon Wesley Gordon was born on February 17, 1892 in Scugog Island, Ontario to Joseph and Elizabeth Hood. He enlisted in the Army on February 16, 1916 with the 182nd Battalion. Gordon was a bank clerk before he joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force. He arrived in England on May 14, 1917 on the SS Justicia. Cpl Gordon Hood was killed at the Battle of Arras, just east of Monchy-le-Preux with the 116th Battalion, 9th Brigade, Canadian Infantry. He is buried in the Vis-en-Artois British Cemetery, Haucourt, France. After his death his mother received the Memorial Cross. He had a Union Jack and Bull Dog tattoo on his left forearm.
