225 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HARROD, Harold Ross Harold was born in Toronto on February 24, 1921. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1939. He was sent to England where he met and married Rosa Wait on January 27, 1942. His first mission was to be part of the Dieppe Raid on the Beaches of Normandy. During the raid Harold was wounded. He was dragged to safety by his comrades but ultimately was captured by the Germans and taken prisoner. When the war ended, Harold was released and returned to Toronto, ON where he was reunited with his wife; formally discharged on August 21, 1945. Together they raised six children that were blessed to never feel the effects of what Harold endured during the war. He is remembered by his family as a hero, a man who fought for the freedoms that we enjoy today. Harold was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the 1939-1945 Star. Harold was a member of the 147 Barrie Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion and passed away on June 12, 2001. HARVEY, Maureen Bernadette Maureen was born in Montreal, Quebec on August 7, 1952. She joined the Provincial Correctional Services from 1986 to 2000 and from 2002 to 2016. She was sent to Haiti on loan to Correctional Services Canada in 2010 and served under the United Nations MINUSTAH United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti after the earthquake in 2010 and was deployed in 2011 to 2012. She was awarded the following medals: the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti Medal and Correctional Exemplary Service Medal. HARROLD, Herbert James Harold was born in Dursley, Gloucestershere, England on October 10, 1862. He enlisted in the British Army duringWorldWar I. He served in India and England with the York and Lancaster Regiment 65th and 84th. He received a medal of Meritorious Service for saving soldiers, when their ship sank in rough seas and hitting rocks. Her Majesty the Queen, had been pleased to nominate Colour Sergeant H. Harrold 2 BTN York & Lancaster RGT, to receive the Silver Medal and an Annuity of 10 pound Sterling for life, whether discharged with or without pension, for his highly Meritorious Service on the occasion of the wreck of the Royal Indian Marine troopship “Warren Hastings”. Herbert had joined shortly after he finished school and served for 25 years in various parts of the British Empire. He passed away on December 7, 1945 in Ottawa.
